Shem Creek
In the golden hour before sunset you can find the best light for landscape painting. As the sun sits low , it casts long shadows and diffuses through the atmposphere shifting to warmer tones. On Shem creek , you will see the shrimp fleet tied up for the night. The clanging of halyards is music to your ears, the whistle of wind through steel rigging is peaceful and soothing accompanied by the laughter of stray seagulls on their last flight of the day. Shem crek is a marvel, a gift. I always see a dolphin or two, pelicans are a certainty and Carolina skiffs chug back and forth in front of early diners sipping the first cocktail at sunset. Look out from Tavern and Table south towards Charleston and you will see the silhuettes of Shem's shrimpers posing in the glow of the last rays of daylight. When hte sun gets low enough , you see the intense dance, sparkle on the ripples in the open water and know this was a great day.
